Sooner or later most Google Ads accounts see the notice “Advertiser verification required”. Google uses advertiser verification to show who is behind ads (the “About this advertiser” disclosure). This guide covers who must verify, which documents work and how to avoid rejections.
1. Who has to verify
Google rolls out verification to all advertisers over time and prioritises accounts by risk signals, regulated categories and account activity. Once you are notified, the deadline is shown in the account (typically 30 days). If you miss it, ads stop serving until verification is completed.
2. Where to find the form
- Google Ads → Billing → Advertiser verification (or the notice banner).
- Answer the questions: are you an agency or advertiser, organisation or individual, and who pays.
- Confirm the legal name and country — they must match the payments profile.
- Upload documents and submit. Some steps require the primary contact to complete them.
3. Accepted documents
| Verifying as | Typical documents |
|---|---|
| Individual | Government-issued photo ID (passport, national ID, driving licence) with name matching the payments profile |
| Organisation | Certificate of incorporation or business registration, tax registration, or a recent official/bank document with the legal name and address |
| Agency | The agency’s own organisation documents; the client may also need to verify separately |
Documents must be clear, uncropped, unexpired and in a supported language, or accompanied by a certified translation if requested.
4. Why verification fails
- Name on the documents does not exactly match the payments profile (abbreviations, missing “Ltd”).
- Screenshots, photos at an angle or edited files.
- Personal ID uploaded when verifying as an organisation.
- Country of registration differs from the account’s billing country.
Correct the payments profile first, then resubmit. Never use documents of another person or company — that leads to suspension for misrepresentation.
5. Advertiser verification vs other certifications
Advertiser verification is identity only. Regulated industries need additional certifications: financial services verification, gambling certification for licensed operators, or LegitScript for pharmacies and addiction treatment. These are separate applications.
FAQ
How long does it take?
Often a few business days; complex cases can take longer. You can keep ads running until the deadline.
Is there a Reddit-style shortcut?
No. The only path is submitting accurate documents for the real advertiser.
