Running ads for loans, insurance, investments, mortgages or credit cards to people in Australia on Facebook and Instagram now requires verification of the ad’s beneficiary and payer and a “Paid for by” disclaimer. People sometimes call this an “Australian financial ad account”. In practice it is a verification status tied to a licensed (or lawfully exempt) legal entity and specific ad accounts – not an account type that can be bought or transferred.

1. What triggers verification
Meta’s Help Center lists ten regions where financial product ads need verification: Australia, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. In-scope products include insurance, mortgages, loans, investment products and credit card applications (Meta Help Center). Brand ads for banks and insurers, news, and financial education that does not let people obtain a product are generally outside the verification requirement.
2. AFSL or exemption
According to Reuters and Australian trade press reporting on Meta’s announcement, advertisers provide beneficiary and payer details including their Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) number unless exempt. Mortgage brokers covered by an Australian Credit Licence can select “exempt” but still verify and show the disclaimer, which then reads “AFS licence: exemption claimed”. Check the live Meta page for the current wording.

3. How verification works
- Choose Australia as the location and declare a financial products category in Ads Manager’s compliance check, or start in Meta Business Suite under Authorizations and verifications.
- Use an admin account for the business portfolio and ad account.
- Enter the AFSL number or declare an exemption, then verify an individual (government ID, which cannot be uploaded for someone else) or an organization (business details or documents plus proof of connection).
- After approval, select the verified beneficiary and payer to show on each ad.
4. Public disclosure
The disclaimer links to a sheet showing the verified names and the licence number or exemption status. Meta has said this information stays visible in the Ad Library for up to seven years in comparable regimes, so make sure legal names are correct before submitting.
5. FAQ
5.1 Can an agency verify on my behalf?
An agency can help operate the flow, but the beneficiary and payer must be the real parties. Meta notes clients may need to supply business documents or a one-time code sent to their domain email.
